As posted by Denis Dodd the Heisman committee stated
In order that there is no misunderstanding regarding the eligibility of a candidate, the recipient of the award must be a bona fide student of an accredited college or university including the United States Academies. The recipients must be in compliance with the bylaws defining at NCAA student-athlete.
Now to me this shows that
1) Reggie Bush was NOT qualified to keep the Heisman 2) Cam Newton has serious problems in qualification at the moment with the academic fraud at Florida3) Why is he still in consideration?
There seems to be a few of the sports pundits who say Cam should be allowed to qualify and if he is found guilty at a later date then strip him of the award. The problem with that is that the Heisman has already been tarnished with the Bush affair and cannot stand another year with out a winner.
The rules seem clear enough so why cant people abide by them.
I am from England and if you submit a paper written by somebody else and you are caught you are out. Period.Why was Cam given the benefit of the doubt , how did he manage to be actively recruited by numerous schools and enrole at Auburn. Auburn must have had the common sense to check with Florida as to why Cam left and if/what were the problems.
The whole point of the Heisman is Student/Athelete, so you have to abide by the rules for students as well as atheletes.
